The youngest thing about the church is the tower. The old approaches of the tower wall can still be seen on the west wall. The tower was once wider and bulky, but was rebuilt more narrowly after the fires in 1837 and 1911. In 1911 the bell was also lost. It was therefore re-cast.
The oldest part of the church is the western part made of field stones in the late Romanesque-early Gothic transition style. Due to the increasing number of pilgrims, the church was expanded around 1500 with an extension in the late Gothic style.
The box of God still stands in the church today, in which the miraculous picture of Maria Thovboke was kept above and the sacrificed praises were thrown in below. The image of Mary disappeared in the Thirty Years' War.
The Marienkirche is known for its expressive ceiling paintings. In the central nave, twelve apostles are depicted during the execution. The story of Catherine of Alexandria is told in the east yoke of the north nave, the story of Isaac's sacrifice, David and Goliath, Samson and the lion, and equestrian saints and prophet couples in the south nave.

Very pretty church with a striking division in the wall. On the one hand, red bricks, on the other hand, grey-blue "boulders"?
There was even a wedding here this weekend. I can imagine it being really romantic in this sunny weather!
