    The Hörder Burg (Hörde castle) is located in the south-east of Dortmund, close to the river Emscher, now right at the new harbor plaza of the 2010 created Phoenix Lake. It was built in the 12th century, with the contemporary tower still containing the original tower building, and today houses a museum. The rest of the castle complex mostly dates from the 1890s, when the steel manufacturer who had bought the area in 1840 converted the building and new annexes into office space. In front of the castle recent excavations are visible that document remains of the original castle foundations and artifacts found during excavation.

      The Hörder Castle, also known as Hörde, in today's Dortmund district of Hörde, was built in the 12th century as a moated castle in the immediate vicinity of the Emscher. It is the headquarters of the aristocratic Hörde family. Not far from the castle, at the confluence of the Emscher and Hörder Bach rivers, there was an economically important flour mill.

      The Hörder Castle and with it Ministeriale Albert I von Hörde are first mentioned in a certificate from Emperor Otto IV. (HRR) in favor of the Corvey Monastery. The historically significant castle tower, which has been preserved to this day, dates from this time.

      After the decline of the steel industry on Phoenix-Ost and the dismantling of the steelworks, extensive renovation of the castle began in June 2008. In this context, archaeological excavations took place in front of the castle. A new wooden spire was built on the castle tower. On the day of the open monument on September 14, 2008, the building was the focus of the Dortmund events and could be viewed.

      After the excavations were completed in 2009, the numerous finds and some relics of the “Hoesch era” were exhibited on the ground floor of the castle building.

      The former Hoesch administration with the extension buildings is listed as an architectural monument, the traces of the medieval castle are entered as a ground monument in the list of monuments of the city of Dortmund.

      In the immediate vicinity of the Hörder Castle, the Phoenix Lake was created, which was flooded on October 1, 2010 as part of a large festival. In the Hörder Burg, the Association for the Promotion of Home Care e. V. Stop a museum temporarily. The history of Hörder from the Middle Ages to the present day was documented here.
