The largest remaining areas of humped meadows in the entire Alpine region can be found around Mittenwald. Humped meadows are remnants of the ground moraines (debris, limestone) that have been deposited in hill-like formations. The humped meadows consist of thousands of individual hills that are between 50 and 100 centimeters high.
