The entire ensemble has been a listed building since 1978. The district bought the Etelser Schloss at the beginning of the 1980s and renovated the building and the park from the ground up. The result is impressive. The Etelsen Castle Park Association takes care of the maintenance of the castle and the park.
The castle was built in 1886 by the von Heimbruch brothers under the direction of the architect Karl Hantelmann from Hanover; The mausoleum was built in 1873 by the famous architect C.W. Haase from Hanover.
After the Verden district restored the castle, which was built in the Renaissance style of the Wilhelminian era, the mausoleum was also restored.
