The Nordhäuser Roland is a knight statue at the old town hall of Nordhausen, the district town of the district of the same name in Thuringia. The Roland figure is the city's symbol and symbolized imperial freedom from 1220 to 1802. In 1411, Roland was first mentioned in the city's hereditary interest book. According to more recent interpretations, it was set up on the occasion of the defense of the city by the citizens' opposition against the old authorities.[1] After city fires, it was rebuilt in 1717 from oak wood, with a height of 3.20 m. Its creator is not known. He is considered the progenitor of the wooden Rolande of the southern Harz.

Roland holds a coat of arms with the imperial eagle. It is the symbol of the free imperial city at the time of installation. The Nordhäuser Roland has always represented urban freedom, power and jurisdiction.

In the Middle Ages, court was held directly in front of the Roland statue, and the city prison was housed in the town hall behind it.
