        Anyone traveling in the Spreewald Forest – by bike or boat – shouldn't miss the Spreewaldhof beer garden in Leipe. The garden is located directly on the river, framed by trees, wild greenery, and shady umbrellas. It's wonderfully laid-back: rustic wooden benches, a relaxed atmosphere, no frills, just honest, down-to-earth cuisine.

        The menu is manageable, but that's precisely its advantage: cucumber shandy, linseed oil curd with boiled potatoes, Spreewald schnitzel – what you get here tastes fresh and fits the location. If you want, you can sit on the lawn, look out over the water, and watch the paddlers dock. The boats practically sail right up to your beer garden table.

        The farm is a perfect rest stop for cyclists. It's located right on the route between Lübbenau and Burg – anyone who makes a detour to Leipe almost automatically ends up here. Restrooms are available, and the service is friendly and relaxed. It might take a while if it's very busy – but that's part of the slowing down in the Spreewald.

        Tip: If the weather is warm, be sure to allow some time – and just sit back after eating. At some point, a Spreewald barge with an accordion is guaranteed to paddle by.
