Prosperity and self-confidence are still exuded by the imposing half-timbered construction of the Wierener Mühle. Not without reason, since the 14th century, the Wierener Müller were able to rely on the yields of two farmsteads and also proved their entrepreneurial spirit in the field of milling. In order to achieve a better damming height, the miller relocated its mill, which has been attested since 1330, during the construction of the present mill building in 1788 slightly down the river, thereby increasing the Mühlendamm. In 1895, the existing next to the grinding mill oil mill was replaced by a saw gate and with the first turbine (1900), the mill was also already a DC generator. This was at the same time the foundation stone for the Wierener Elektrizitätswerk, which supplied since 1909 Wieren (until 1943) and the nearby Drohe (until 1929). Nevertheless, here too in 1962 the company had to be discontinued and in the following period a part of the mill technology to be expanded. Today, the forecourt of the mill and the area beyond the Ilmenau part of a public park and the new weir has a fish ladder. On the occasion of the Wieren village festival, the doors of the mill building are still opening.
