In the heart of Leh is the Buddhist temple "Soma Gompa", which is certainly not very big, but due to the high number of native Buddhists is very interesting and authentic. Watching people meditating has something very meditative about it.
In fact, in Leh more than 40% of the inhabitants are Buddhists, which is mainly due to the large-scale expulsion of people from Tibet. In order to meet the high number of Tibetan sages, a S.O.S Children's Village was built in Choglamsar, the neighboring city. This was partly funded by a donation from the Dalai Lama.
