The Netra moated castle is a stately Renaissance building on the western outskirts of Netra and has existed since the 13th century, with the Boyneburgers demolishing the former castle complex or its remains and building a new and relatively large castle in its place between 1590 and 1600. The water from its surrounding moat was diverted through a short canal from the Leimbach, which runs around 120 meters further to the west, and returned through a second canal into the Leimbach, which then flows into the Netra, which flows past to the south, about 50 meters further west.

A water fortress probably stood here as early as the 13th century, probably built by the Lords of Netra. This family died out in 1558, and all possessions were inherited by the Lords of Boyneburg-Honstein. At the end of the 16th century they built a large new moated castle. About 200 years later, this line also died out and so in 1792 the castle and property came as a fief to the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel. The estate became a state domain, which was finally dissolved in 1904. After several changes of ownership, the moated castle is now privately owned. Recommended reading: Rudolf Knappe - Medieval Castles in Hesse, pp. 67-68.
