Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue is a commune in the French department of Manche (Normandy region) with a population of 2097 (1999). The place is part of the district of Cherbourg-Octeville.

The fortifications of Saint-Vaast are part of the World Heritage List Fortifications of Vauban. These were built after the disastrous naval battle of La Hougue (1692) for the French, in which the English set 12 French ships on fire and the flagship Soleil Royal sank. It concerns two towers, the Tour Vauban in the Fort de la Hougue on a peninsula and the Tour Benjamin de Combes on the island of Tatihou. These towers are each 20 meters high and 16 meters wide and had to protect the harbor against attacks from the sea by their crossfire.

The bay between Saint-Vaast and the Pointe de Saire in the north provides a natural, safe anchorage for ships. Vauban called it the most beautiful anchorage in all of France. Saint-Vaast has a large harbor protected by a 400-metre pier, built in the 19th century. The harbor has room for 760 pleasure boats and there is also a fishing harbor with about fifty boats. Oyster farming is important with almost 30 hectares of oyster fields in the two bays around Saint-Vaast: Cul-de-Loup and La Coulège. This gives an annual yield of 6,500 tons. Oysters have been farmed here since the 16th century.

The oldest building in Sain-Vaast is the Chapelle des Marins from the 11th century
