The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Ninove is one of the largest Baroque churches in Flanders. The church used to be part of the Norbertine abbey of Saint Cornelius and Saint Cyprian and is therefore also called the abbey church. Today it serves as a parish church. Seen from the air, the shape of the church is a Latin cross. In 2022, archaeological excavations uncovered the remains of the 17th-century guest house and the 12th-century Romanesque church. A seal stamp of Brother Balduinus was also found. The tower will be restored in 2023.

Beautiful and imposing baroque church, whose building history, which has been interrupted several times, lasted almost a hundred years. According to tradition, the plans were brought from Rome in 1628 by Abbot David. Laying the first stone in 1635. A pen drawing by Ph. De Dijn of 1650 shows the abbey with indications of the foundations of the new abbey church, east of the old church. According to the Limburg-Stirum, the walls were already twenty feet high in 1654. In 1660, Abbot Nevius signed a contract with master builder Egidius Van Waesberghe for works on the nave and choir. Work was interrupted in the second half of the 17th century due to looting by the French army. Second building campaign early 18th century; real building activity from 1713-1715 under Abbot F. Van der Haeghen; Completion in 1723 and solemn dedication in 1727.

The tower was not erected until 1826-1844, to a design by architect Louis Roelandt. From 1813 used as a parish church, dedicated to Our Lady.
