Phoenix Lake is an excellent example of structural change in the Ruhr area. Formerly here was the huge area of the steelworks Phoenix East. Today here is a recreational area, a really beautiful lake, a great renaturation project. Even if around the beautiful and rich live

Around the Phoenix-Lake leads a beautiful bike path, structurally separate from the sidewalk and well suited for the road bike. At the western end of the lake, it leads to another site of the steelworks ("Phoenix-West"), where a blast furnace still stands and with its imposing appearance recalls the history of this site. Experience biking at its finest.

Jetty and meadows on Phoenix Lake

When the weather is nice, you can enjoy the sun not only on the jetty, but also on the surrounding meadows (attention, as unfortunately everywhere you have to watch out for broken glass and dog waste, greet the inconsiderate). If you don't have a blanket with you, you might be lucky and one of the oversized "benches" is free to sit on.

Watching the sailors is an interesting pastime. Ball games etc. with the children are only possible to a limited extent if it is not so overcrowded at the lake. There are no opening times or entrance fees (yet).

At the Phoenix Lake, there is a lot going on at the weekend, especially when the weather is nice.
Definitely worth a trip.
