The reburial of 1839 At the mound heights is the main monument to the heroes of Borodin, which was laid in August 1837, on the 25th anniversary of the battle of Borodino. In July 1839, at the foot of the monument, the remains of Prince Pyotr Ivanovich Bagration were buried, transferred here by order of the emperor from the village of Sim Yuryev-Polsky district of Vladimir province. The height of the monument along with the cross is 27.5 meters. Its faces contain information on the strength of both armies on the day of the battle, on the "twelve languages" of Napoleon's army, on Russian generals who died on a memorable day on August 26, 1812. Here are expressive texts about the retreat of the Russian army to Moscow, about the entry of the French into the throne and of the Russian troops in Paris. In 1932, the monument was destroyed as "having no historical or artistic value." The crypt with the ashes of Bagration also suffered. In 1987, the monument and tombstone on the grave of P.I. Bagration were recreated in their former forms and materials - in cast iron and bronze with gilding - according to the surviving drawings of the architect Anthony Adamini.
