This section of the paved, multi-use Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is just south of Point Woronzof, a popular location for watching jets land and take off from the nearby airport. The trail here winds through the trees and traverses a couple of long, gradual hills.

Just a beautiful trail that I would recommend to anyone who has some time in Anchorage when the weather is good. Bicycles can be rented at several locations in the city. Ours were in very good condition for rental bikes. If the conditions are right there is no reason not to. I would do it again and again.

Popular waterfront bike trail with good chances to see moose (saw the first moose of many moose here literally on the first day of arriving in Alaska) and other wildlife.
Named for former Alaska governor Tony Knowles, who served from 1981 to 1987, the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is one of four greenbelt trails located in Anchorage. Even though the trail spans 11.0 miles each way (from Kincaid Park to just north of where 2nd Avenue ends in the Cook Inlet), it is easily picked up from several points in the city. Some consider it one of the most beautiful coastal trails in the nation, or at least in Anchorage, Alaska; the trail gently winds along the coast eleven miles from downtown to the chalet at Kincaid Park and is by far Anchorage's most popular trail. An easy way to quickly leave the bustling city behind, and explore a local treasure that tells a long tale of natural and human history. Skirt the fault line of the '64 quake, stroll through scented forests, look for moose, and take in sweeping vistas where you can spot beluga whales and North America's highest peak, Mount Denali all in a single view. The first five miles of the trail from the modern skyline of downtown to the open skies of Point Woronzof are highlighted at anchoragecoastaltrail.com
Total Length is 11 miles. Access to the trail is available at the extreme northeast end of West 2nd Ave. near the railroad depot, at the extreme southwest end at Kincaid Chalet, and several points in between.
