An old village church built of old stones. Worth a rest.

The Romanesque round tower is one of the few of its kind in the wider area, it dates from around 1250, an exact construction time is not documented. It was built as a military and round tower and provided with a secret passage to the residents in case of an attack, the opportunity to leave the area inconspicuously. The stone built church was like the village in 1300 owned by the family of Oedeme in Lüneburg, In 1341 she gave away her patronage to the provost and the convent of the monastery of Lüne. The sovereign took over in 1529, after the Reformation patronage. In the north wall of the present church remains of the masonry from the period around 1350 are preserved, the former had probably a low roof and a flat wooden ceiling, and an altar on the east side. In the renovation between 1450 and 1460, the building was renewed while maintaining the outer walls. Buttresses were added to support the new vault.

Betzendorf is located on the old trade and military route from Lüneburg or Winsen / Luhe to Celle, also known as "Salzstraße" or "Celler Heerstraße". There is various evidence of an early settlement of the area. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Peter and Paul is one of the old churches in Lüneburg. No documents have survived of its foundation, so the exact date for the construction of the church is not known, but is estimated to be around 1250. It is a Romanesque stone church with a tower, nave and choir. It is assumed that it was originally a fortified church. Remains of the masonry from around 1350 are still preserved in the north wall of today's church. During the renovation between 1450 and 1460, the building was rebuilt while retaining the outer walls.

The massive stone tower was built between 1200 and 1400. Openings have been made in the walls of the tower that serve various purposes: on the ground floor and at a height of about 3 m, there are direct entrances to the church and the gallery; at a height of about 8 m there are four sound openings, all of which have been designed differently in the course of history. The sound opening to the east is now covered by the church roof. It has an early Romanesque form.
