The history of the small town of Ankum goes back a long way. It was first mentioned in a document in 977, then under the name Ainghem. Mainly cloth was traded locally, as well as livestock to this day.
The Artland Cathedral towers proudly in the historic town center. Right next door you will find cozy cafés and restaurants that invite you to linger.

It's an imposing building – I wrote that in May 2017. Now I've been back and am even more impressed, even though I haven't explored much yet.
The tower is visible from afar, so it's no surprise that the cathedral, with all its details, is the focal point of the town. The arcade-like archway along the main street below the cathedral is striking. An architectural feature that is absolutely exceptional in this region and looks very beautiful. The Café Sich, located next to the cathedral, is another highlight and absolutely worth a visit!
