The 26 meter high “crouching man” looks out over the Markermeer and watches over the landscape. The work of art consists of 1,800 metal rods and is one of several huge landscape works of art on Flevoland.
Artist Antony Gormley, also known for 'Angels of the North', one of the UK's most famous works of art, was fascinated by the manufacturability of the new polder and inspired by the unspoilt landscape. Here we find the straight lines of the canals, fields, wind turbines and the high-voltage pylons and lines that lie like a nervous system in Flevoland.
