It seems that the very spirits of the Sonian Forest were invited to the site of the ‘monument to the foresters’, commemorating in the form of a circle of stone monoliths, the disappearance of 11 foresters who died during the 1914-1918 conflict. Richard Viandier, a painter passionate about the Sonian Forest, collaborated with the Water and Forest Administration for which he produced several exhibitions. Here he was inspired by the funeral rites of the Celtic tradition, and the whole takes the traditional form of a “Cromlech”. From this place, inaugurated on May 30, 1920, a strong atmosphere emanates.
