The Steinberg (395 meters above sea level), the highest elevation in the municipality of Dörentrup, was expanded into a NATO missile station in the 1960s. The once oval summit was partially ground down and heavily reshaped. Since 1998, a large part of the area has belonged to the Lippe Nature Conservation Association, which converted two former military buildings into a bat hibernation area and a species protection house, removed the remaining buildings and dismantled the streets. The demolition material was spread over the area of the former summit to create an elevated location for a viewing point. From here there is a fantastic panoramic view of the Weserbergland and the Lipperland.

The Steinberg can be reached via several hiking trails such as the "Path of Views", the "European Long Distance Hiking Trail" (E1), the "Hansaweg" (X9), the "Burgensteig" (X2) and via local circular hiking trails.
