Vilshofen an der Donau is located at the confluence of the tributaries Vils, Pfudrach and Wolfach, south of the Bavarian Forest, a good 20 kilometers upstream from Passau. Because of these tributaries into the Danube, the city is also called the small three-river city, while the three-river city of Passau serves as a model.
