Moor and Geest, forest and heath, dunes and pastures: The wide meadow landscape around Ottersberg impresses with its great diversity. Embedded in rows of trees from old alders and oaks is the small town of Fischerhude (mentioned in documents already in 1124), which is also known as the "island forest village" and which only became a parish in 1852. The special thing about the idyillischen environment are the many arms of the Wümme, which pull through the damp and river landscape. Even today, the many old farms are reminiscent of the wealthy peasants who came to wealth through eel and haymaking. Numerous old duck houses, boathouses and footbridges make ubiquitous past traditions.
For generations, the artist village Fischerhude has been home to and also a place of work for painters, sculptors and musicians. In 1895 the farming life was enriched by the settlement of the painter Heinrich Breling, who had grown up in Fischerhude, and became known as the "Village of Peasants and Artists" after the arrival of Clara Rilke-Westhoff, Dietrich Speckmann, Otto Modersohn and other artists. The "Otto Modersohn Museum" and the "Heimatmuseum Irmintraut" are among the special attractions. .........
