The "Waymark" designed by Barbara Jaros marks a chain of Bronze Age burial mounds.
Even before the Bronze Age, people used the Oldenburg-East Frisian ridges of the Ammerland through the moors to the coast for themselves and their animals. One of them led through the area of today's municipality of Wiefelstede. The archaeological investigations by D. Zoller (1957) allow the prehistoric path to be traced through burial sites from south to north, starting in the area of the city of Oldenburg, via Etzhorn and Wahnbek to Neusüdende, Wemkendorf and Mollberg via the Wapel and on to East Frisia.
In Wiefelstede on the former Wemkendorfer Kirchpfad, today's Wemkendorfer Weg in the district of Wemkendorf, there are three burial mounds opposite the former school on the premises of the farmer Claussen, one of which can be seen from the road. However, it can be assumed that they are around 3500 years old.
