This moor yard was built as part of the moor colonization of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The farm complex with a smoke house, peat barn, pig and sheep shed, machine shed, Göpel, draw well, earth cellar, oven, beehive, peat barge, peat cutting and the numerous everyday and agricultural implements offer an interesting insight into the simple but tough everyday life of the former peat farmers' families.

Route description:

Follow in the footsteps of the glass industry, peat extraction and today's renaturation of the former extraction areas.

Located in the northern part of the Teufelsmoor, Gnarrenburg can look back on a history of more than 225 years of the glass industry. There were once four glass factories in the region, of which the most important glassworks developed and produced a special medicine bottle called “the drop counter”. The peat deposits in the region served as energy suppliers.

You can learn a lot about the Gnarrenburg glass industry in the "Gnarrenburg Glass Museum". The historical moor farm in Augustendorf offers insights into the life of a typical moor farming family. More information about the formation of moors, their flora and fauna, peat extraction and the use of peat can be found on the moor adventure trail in Huvenhoopsmoor.
