The Sanctuary of Monte Berico was erected in honor of Maria, who appeared here twice in 1426 and in 1428 to Donna Vincenza, a peasant woman who brought lunch to her husband who worked on the hill. In those years the city of Vicenza was tormented by the plague and it was the Madonna herself who asked for the sanctuary to be erected so that the city could be freed. And in fact, so it happened: in 1430, the year in which the works of the Sanctuary were completed, the plague left Vicenza.
