Although you would think that this hot and dry canyon is the last place on earth where you could meet a bear, this is what happened to us:
We were on a packrafting trip along the Green River. On my map, I saw a symbol for a spring at the end of this canyon, so we took a hike to get some fresh water without sediments. At the end of the canyon, there where huge stone walls with water dripping and some small pools. And there where also foot prints. My first question was: who is hiking barefoot in this area. Then I saw the other prints - obviously from bear paws. I guess, the bear was looking for some fresh water, too. There was also bear scat. We began to make noise to let the (hidden) bear know, that we are there and calmly retreated from this dead end canyon. We never saw the bear, but we are pretty sure, he saw us.
