A small piece of nature in the city, in the middle of a small pond. Which is possible to pedal, go for a walk or just enjoy the bike. Maybe a little ice cream? There are good possibilities nearby, eg. B. the milk house or the Schlossberg. Always a nice alternative in every season.

The castle pond is an artificial pond that is already a kind of landmark for the Schlossberg. Here you can relax, escape everyday stress, hang out with friends or enjoy an ice cream alone! As you can see in my photo, you have a beautiful view of the castle church and the Esse.

The area around the castle pond belonged to the Chemnitz monastery from the very beginning. Abbot Heinrich von Schleinitz had the castle pond built in 1493 as a fish pond for the monastery. The Pleißenbach river flowed around the castle pond and still irrigates the pond today. After the monastery was dissolved, the pond was placed under the control of the Chemnitz office and in 1860 was bought by the city of Chemnitz and converted into a recreational area.

The Zipper fountain was built on the castle pond island in 1913 and a new concert pavilion after the Second World War. During the warmer seasons, rowing boats and paddle boats can be rented at the castle pond.
