The roots of the Frienisberg residential and nursing home lie in the former monastery of the same name. After its dissolution in 1528, in the course of the Reformation in Switzerland, it was the seat of the Bernese bailiffs. From 1834 the cantonal boys' deaf mute institution was located until it moved to Münchenbuchsee in 1890. The subsequent catering establishment was purchased by today's sponsors in 1897 and developed in the course of the 20th century to the national, well-known residential and nursing home known today.
