We found the beach Klein Wangerooge during our visit (July 2016) unfortunately in a catastrophic condition. About the desolate state of toilets, showers and changing rooms you can easily see away - after all, no entrance fee. But that there have been emptied for a long time no trash and everything flew through the area, spoiled one of these beautiful spots earth.

Dear visitors, please do not forget your good nursery. When the trash can is full, do not throw it away but take it home with you. Obtain yourself and other visitors these little paradises!

The Banter See in Wilhelmshaven is a former harbor basin.

The lake is located in a recreational area and is used for sailing, surfing, diving, canoeing and swimming. At the lake is the outdoor pool Klein Wangerooge. Bathing water quality has been monitored since 1991, usually without any complaints. In 2003 and 2005, however, the bathroom was closed for at least 14 days during the bathing season.

In the Middle Ages, the village was Banter parish in the vicinity of today's Banter lake. During the construction of the ports of Wilhelmshaven, the Westhafen and Zwischenhafen, which was divided by the Grodendamm in 1948, was built, whereby the western part was completed with the former Westhafen and today forms the Banter See.

In 2012, the approximately 7.5 km long "Banter See trail", which had been planned since the 1970s and had already been completed in sections, was completed by the city of Wilhelmshaven.

The brackish water lake is used by the sport fishing association Wilhelmshaven e.V. as angling waters.

On the north side of the Banter lake there is a common tern colony, which has been intensively studied by the Vogelwarte Helgoland bird research institute since the 1980s.
