Detmold is always worth a trip. The Hermann Monument is of course highly recommended. The Hermannsweg is a must for mountain bikers and hikers.
This is recommended at any time of the year. One train station further in the direction of Altenbeken you should see the Externsteine in Horn-Bad-Meinberg. In Altenbeken, the large railway viaduct is of interest. A viaduct festival takes place there every year. We have often taken the train to Horn and then from there by bike to Detmold on to Lage to Oerlinghausen, always beautifully through the Teutoburg Forest. On this tour we took the trekking bike along the Werra Cycle Path from Horn (nreise by train to Pota Westfalika. The route between Detmold and Lage is beautiful. The section before can be left out.

The days of the old bridge over the Sielwehr are numbered. With good reason: it is dilapidated, its road is bumpy and has holes like Swiss cheese, it is too narrow, and cyclists are forced to dismount. High time for something new! The new Sielwehr Bridge is being built right next door. It is three times as wide as the old one: finally this important vehicle-free Werre crossing can be used by pedestrians AND cyclists together. In a few weeks it's time!👍There's joy!😊

On September 11, 2023, the new Sielwehr Bridge was finally opened to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. This is a huge improvement for us cyclists, a quantum leap forward compared to the unsustainable conditions on the dilapidated old bridge!!️👍👍👍Now the new bridge is now, fortunately, clear and unmissable with the sign "No passage is allowed, bicycles are free" and red and white flags closed to vehicle traffic.👍
