Lübeck itself is something to fall in love with, but the Malerwinkel offers one of the most beautiful views of the city island, i.e. the old town. It is also the Malerwinkel that made the Dankwarts Bridge so famous. Although this is just a simple but beautiful pedestrian bridge.

The place is ideal for late-sleeping artists who have been meeting here for ages. Especially from early afternoon onwards, the sun literally shines on the Obertrave with the city view and bathes it in warm, strong colors.

From a historical perspective, it is an area of 1,827 m2. This area is one of the foothills of the Lübeck ramparts.

The special thing about this viewpoint is the view in a southwesterly direction; from here you can see the two towers of St. Mary's Church west of St. Peter's Church, although it is actually in the eastern neighborhood.

Apparently the name came about in connection with slide presentations by the then managing director of the tourist association in 1939.

The Lübeck photographer Wilhelm Castell became known with a photo from 1964 when he photographed a painter in the foreground with an easel and a finished picture as well as the actual motif in the background.

Today, citizens of Lübeck are committed to preserving the unobstructed view from this location given that this is a sought-after development location. It is worth noting that the Malerwinkel appeared as such in travel guides at the beginning of the 20th century.
