"So-Da" ►Leuna Bridge ► Höchst/Schwanheim 🚴♂️
The "So-Da" Bridge, also known as the Leuna Bridge, is a bridge over the Main River in Frankfurt am Main and connects the districts of Höchst and Schwanheimer Unterfeld. The construction of a bridge over the Main River, wide enough to accommodate trams, large-scale car and horse-drawn vehicles, as well as pedestrian traffic, was contractually agreed upon when the city of Höchst was incorporated in 1928, but it wasn't completed until over 60 years later.
Since its construction, the two-lane prestressed concrete bridge served only as an access road to a parking lot for employees of the Höchst Industrial Park until 2007. It was therefore popularly known as the "So-Da" Bridge, as it simply stood "so there." The connecting road towards Schwanheim and the airport was not built during the bridge's construction due to political disputes surrounding the project, as it was supposed to run through parts of the Schwanheimer Düne nature reserve. 🚴
