Hiking shoes and a bit of fitness for the ascent to the castle should already be there. You will be rewarded with a beautiful hiking trail and some views of the Kampenwand. The view of Aschau is only possible in winter when the trees are leafless.
In the last third of the 12th century, Konrad and Arnold von Hirnsberg built Hohenaschau Castle as a base at the entrance to the Upper Prien Valley. Important aristocratic families expanded their property and made the castle the center of the administrative headquarters of their rulers; with their influence they shaped the country and people in western Chiemgau.
