It is not called the bicycle fountain tower, but the wheel fountain tower. It has nothing in common with a bicycle. The title of this highlight is misleading. The wheel fountain tower is one of the oldest buildings in the city of Breisach. The 41.5 meter deep well was built at the beginning of the 13th century and water was drawn from it using a wooden treadwheel. The tower, which was originally 54 meters high, was destroyed twice and rebuilt in 1953/54 with a height of 34 meters.
