    From the harbor you can reach the island of AMRUM and FÖHR with the big car ferries. In the vicinity there is a large parking lot and a direct railway connection at the ferry terminal. A very large (free) viewing platform offers a breathtaking view over the harbor, the town, the hinterland and the island of Föhr and the Halligen (Langeness).

        You can explore the island by car, bicycle or by foot. Taking the car with you only makes sense if you have a lot of luggage. Otherwise the best and cheaper choice is the bike.

          In addition to the Schlüttsiel ferry port located somewhat south, the gateway to the island world of North Friesland. Also nice for laps on and behind the dike, e.g. to the village of Dagebüll with its old church.

              Most holidaymakers travel to the island of Föhr via the ferry port in Dagebüll on the mainland. The Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei ferries run from Dagebüll all year round and several times a day to the island of Föhr and on to Amrum.
              The departures are independent of the tide and only deviate from the timetable in the event of extremely low tide or severe flooding. The ferry crossing to Föhr takes approximately 40 to 45 minutes. The four W.D.R. ferries, which are used on the route between Dagebüll, Wyk auf Föhr and Wittdün on Amrum, can bring 50 to 75 cars and up to 1,200 passengers per trip to the islands.

                Dagebüll the "gateway to the islands". I found this saying on a website. This statement is absolutely true for the tide-independent port of the municipality of Dagebüll, from here the ferries go to the islands of Föhr and Amrum. With around 1.7 million passengers per year, the North Frisian port is the third largest passenger port in Germany. More than 300,000 cars and 45,000 trucks are transported from here every year. The port can be reached by train, from the stop at the south pier it is only a few meters to the service buildings and the ferries.
