It was probably a small moated castle on the right bank of the salt flats south of the Mappesmühle between Lohra and Gladenbach-Mornshausen. It is believed that it was built on behalf of the Archbishop of Mainz, was intended to control the valley floor and as a fortification to the nearby border with the Hesse county. Ulrich Lennarz describes the castle in 1973 as a desolate tower castle in Offenhausen. The castle was first mentioned in 1324, mentioned in 1434 and was already deserted in 1603. In the cadastral maps from 1803 there is still the place described as a castle. At the beginning of the twentieth century there was said to be a ring-shaped wall about 15 meters in diameter, which was later removed by the miller of the Mappesmühle at that time and used to fill the embankment. At the same time, he filled the many surrounding water holes, presumably the remains of a moat. The castle is connected to the Offenhausen desert, which was only a few hundred meters east of the castle on a hillside on the left side of the salt flats on today's L3048 and southeast of the mill and how the castle fell wildly at the latest in the late 16th century.
