In the middle of Germany's wild east, right next to the Saxon Switzerland National Park,
is Schmilka, a district of Bad Schandau. Small half-timbered houses with quaint guesthouses crowd the hill up to the historic mill from 1665, where flour is still milled and traditional crafts are maintained in the neighboring organic bakery and brewery. Fine hotels and stylish holiday apartments are located on the Elbe.
The historic ferry "Lena" from 1927 crosses from the other bank.

It is no surprise that this place was awarded the title of "Saxony's most beautiful village". The winter village of Schmilka was also awarded the title of "Beacon of the Tourism Industry" for its creative and sustainable concept.

So mystical, rustic and cozy in winter, so colorful, fresh and full of life in summer - this gem between village culture and nature is something you simply have to experience: for a vacation in the middle of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, right on the Malerweg and as an ideal starting point for hiking and climbing in the region.
