Maaseik is definitely worth a detour. Take a look at the Sint-Catharinakerk with beautiful confessionals, an impressive altar and a copy of the Ghent Altarpiece by Aelman (front left). The treasury of the church houses impressive silversmithing, precious manuscripts from the Middle Ages and relics shrouded in mystery.

The market is not far. There are many cafes and restaurants here - for every taste and appetite, from a small snack to a multi-course menu.

The Regional Archaeological Museum is also located on the market square. It takes you on a journey through time, from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages.

The birthplace of the famous painters Jan en Hubert van Eyck is a historical gem that should not be missed. During the town's heyday in the 17th and 18th centuries, a large number of town houses in the Maasland style were built here. Another attraction is the St. Catherine Church with its church treasure. An insider tip is a visit to Belgium's oldest private pharmacy with its own herb garden.
