Picturesque in the valley of the Deichselbach between steep Jurahängen is Frankendorf, probably one of the most beautiful and best-preserved street villages in Franconia. Frankendorf is an old Frankish settlement (1093 by donation bambergisch domkapitelsche Oblei, formerly hochstiftische Lehenbesitzung and farm ownership of the ox of Gunzendorf, then the gift of Stiebar, 1402 the early mass in Buttenheim).

The western part of the district with the so-called climbing garden is designated as a conservation area.

The half-timbered ensemble with its 31 heritage-listed farmhouses is unparalleled in Upper Franconia. Tavern and former mill distinguish themselves in a characteristic way from the otherwise single-storey buildings.

In the national competition "Our village should be more beautiful" Frankendorf was proclaimed a gold village in 1981.
