On the way to and from Schmelzmühle and Salzbödetal, you can take a short, idyllic stop here. The two overgrown, idyllic ponds right by the side of the road are easy to miss.
According to an old legend, the "deer leap" is said to have taken place here in 1562. More information: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirschsprung_(Krofdorfer_Forst).
The ponds were created because, until 50 years ago, siliceous slate was mined here for road construction. Today, it is mostly quiet, as there is often no or at least rarely any motorized traffic on the Waldhausstrasse that runs past. It is only loud here during the frogs' breeding season. Unfortunately, the many pretty photos cannot convey the considerable volume of the croaking male frogs (at this time of year).

On the opposite bank, there was recently a veritable invasion of foxgloves.

Kind of crazy... Waldhausstrasse is currently closed to bicycles (due to the poor road surface). In return, cars are allowed to race through the Krofdorf Forest, despite the toad and frog migration season.
