IJsselpoort and old town hall

Together they form a special combination; a town hall next to a city gate on the outskirts of the city is nowhere else to be found. The city council of that time chose this strategic location because the river was an important traffic artery. Ships were able to dock at the quay for loading and unloading, which were activities that yielded tax money for the city. Those activities could be closely followed from behind the windows of the town hall.

Montfoort is worth your interest in every way. A beautiful town with a glorious history, where the friendly narrow streets still breathe the atmosphere of times gone by. There are good restaurants and cozy shops. Moreover, Montfoort is also easily accessible by boat.
