The weir system in the Nidda near Florstadt - Staden (river kilometer 52) was the only transverse structure on a flow path length of approx. 53 between the "Eschersheimer weir" in Frankfurt (river kilometer 12) and the "An der Krötenburg" weir system in Nidda (river kilometer 65) km. The fall height of over 1.50 m made the weir system an impossible obstacle for smaller aquatic animals and organisms. Larger fish were only able to overcome the existing stone bed of the Tosbeck basin and the then smaller difference in level in the fall height in order to change from the underwater of the weir to the upper water only in the event of large flood events. For years there have been efforts by the NIDDA water association, the city of Florstadt, the RP Darmstadt and the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Wetteraukreis to convert this large hiking obstacle, which represents the Stadener weir for the Nidda ecosystem, into "fish-friendly" areas.
