This is a beautiful community in the Braunau am Inn district in the Innviertel in Upper Austria. 😊
Lengau has 5,080 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2023) and is located in the upper Mattigtal. The municipal area is bordered on the northern side by the mighty Kobernausserwald and on the southern side by the gentle hills of the Hausruck and Kobernausserwald ranges. The municipality consists of the cadastral communities Friedburg, Heiligenstadt, Krenwald, Lengau, Oberehreneck and Utzweih. The three main towns are Friedburg, Schneegattern and Lengau.
Lengau offers many leisure and cultural activities, such as hiking trails, cycle paths, sports fields, an exercise course, a library, a music club and a cultural club. The municipality also has many attractions, such as churches, castles, museums and monuments. Some examples are:
* The parish church of Friedburg, which is dedicated to St. Nicholas and has a Gothic choir and a baroque tower.
* Friedburg Castle, which was built in the 13th century and now houses a hotel and restaurant.
* The Schneegattern local history museum, which shows the history and customs of the region.
* The Naturfreundehaus Schneegattern, which is a popular meeting place for hikers, cyclists and nature lovers.
* The Lengau parish church, which is dedicated to St. Martin and has a Romanesque core and a Gothic tower.
* The Lengau War Memorial, which commemorates those who fell in the two world wars.
