Beautiful viewpoint between val Varaita and val Maira. Suitable for both road bikes (from Marmora / Elva and from Sampeyre) and gravel / MTB routes (via the Strada dei Cannoni). Great view of the Monviso group.

Colle de Sampeyre is on my list of the 15 best passes in Italy. It has everything I ask for a pass to be on the list: altitude, length, difficulty and spectacular scenery. It does it in spades. Its three sides are spectacular and very similar in terms of difficulty. The Stroppo side could be a little easier because it has 2 rest areas... although the numbers without those rest areas are identical to the other 2. It is approximately 1,350 meters of elevation gain in 15 kms of climbing with an average gradient of 8.5%.

The views during the last 5 kms of climbing on each of the sides are wonderful. The road winds through the alpine pastures and you can enjoy the views of the Po plain and the great alpine cirque... with clear views of Mont Viso.

Important: the south side through the vallone d'Elva is not closed to cyclists; they only want to prohibit passage to motor vehicles.

Don't hesitate, it's a fantastic place!!
