There is a so-called ground sailor on the Wenumse enk, a windmill whose blades almost touch the ground. The octagonal mill was built in 1840 as a mortar mill in Baambrugge, a village in the northwest of the province of Utrecht. At that location, the windmill served to drain the Oostzijde Polder.

When the water board there switched to steam power in 1913, the water mill lost its function. In that year, the mill was dismantled by ship to Wenum, where the parts were taken to its current location by horse and carriage. Until 1908, a small ground sailor stood on this spot, who burned down on November 21 that year as a result of a lightning strike. A small windmill that replaced the ground sailor also went up in flames in 1913 due to the windage during a storm.

The water mill from Baambrugge was made suitable for grinding grain at the time of the relocation. From the time the mill was built on its current location, it has been owned by the Vorderman family. This family has been running the miller's business here since 1872. The Wenum windmill is still working and in use as a flour mill.
