The Rocca D’Aries, near Montone, has very ancient origins, as early as the year 1000, it was built by the Fortebracci family on the remains of an ancient fortress in the period from 1370 to 1380.
There are many paths that lead to the Rocca and there are many itineraries for both hiking, MTB and Gravel bikes.
By combining various CAI paths and secondary roads it is possible to create various ring routes that start from Montone and lead to the Rocca.
In addition there is a cycle path along the left side of the Tiber River, with a gravel bottom ideal for gravel bikes and MTBs, which connects the municipalities of San Giustino, Città di Castello and Umbertide and leads to Montone: it can be used very well. in the creation of tours that can start from further away, from the Tiber Valley.
The cycle path that leads to Montone, along the Tiber, is very steep with sections over 18%, we cyclists in the area use "the road of the Woods" which from Coldipozzo leads to Montone: road SP 201 section 4 much less demanding with slopes which do not exceed 8% and in less than 4 km takes us to the town of Montone.
