Limbach was a district of Steinheid until it was incorporated into Neuhaus am Rennweg. The richness of wood in this region once attracted the two glass masters Hans Greiner and Christoph Müller, who built a glassworks in Limbach in 1731. Gotthelf Greiner dedicated himself to the production of porcelain and in 1772, when his porcelain factory in Limbach went into operation, brought many people in wages and bread. Today, only the former manor house, the former carpenter's shop of Gotthelf Greiner and the Greiner crypt on the slope of the Petersberg mountain remind us of this time of white gold.

The Limbacher Sattel is interesting for cyclists for several reasons.
1. It is located directly on the Rennsteig, Rennsteig Cycle Path, and the well-marked Thuringian Forest MTB trail.
2. It can be reached from the south (Coburg, Rödental, Almerswind, Rauenstein) via Neumannsgrund on a quiet mountain road.
3. It is located on the B281 federal highway from Eisfeld via Neuhaus to Saalfeld, which, however, is only recommended for cyclists during off-peak times.
4. It is located at the upper end of the Schwarza Valley.
5. Directly at the intersection of these four roads is a good butcher shop with a snack bar (closed on Sundays). There is also a café right next door, and mobile ice cream vendors are often present when the weather is nice. There are also private guesthouses where you can stay overnight.
