    My favorite café in Berlin. Pretty little castle in a fantastic location on the deep lake overlooking the Glienicker bridge. Easily accessible from land and water. My highlight is the Prussian Sachertorte .... Much tastier and less sweet than the original, a torture dream 😊. The pear cake is also very good.

            The so-called Small Castle, a formerly simple garden house near the Havelufer, was first rebuilt in 1833/1834 to designs by Ludwig Persius.

            A second transformation was also under the direction of the architect Persius 1841/1842 according to detailed information of the Princess Augusta in the style of the English Tudor Gothic.

            The white building served as the residence of the eldest son of the royal couple, Friedrich Wilhelm, later Emperor Frederick III., Until after his marriage to Victoria. Subsequently, it housed court ladies and guests.

            After the death of Wilhelm I, 1888, the house fell into oblivion for decades until it was inhabited by Potsdam-born composer and conductor Hans Chemin-Petit between 1934 and 1945 as a tenant. After the Second World War was a change in use as a rest home of the DEFA and is since 1950 - with a short break after the construction of the border facilities in 1961 - gastronomically used to the present day.
