Normannstein Castle

From a knight's house to a youth club - Normannstein Castle has seen a great deal. Today, the ancient walls, extensively renovated, house an exhibition, a restaurant, and two wedding rooms.

Since the early 12th century, Normannstein Castle has watched over the town. The Lords of Treffurt transformed it into a complete castle with its three distinctive towers. Nearly 100 steps lead explorers of all ages through the floors of the modern exhibition. Here, visitors of all ages can gain fascinating insights into everyday life in the Middle Ages, including meal plans, household remedies, and unwanted roommates. From the observation deck, the view sweeps far across the countryside. With a little luck, you might even spot the White Lady at dusk.

Access to the castle is possible, parking is free, the outdoor area is freely accessible, and the inner courtyard is wheelchair accessible.

Normannstein Castle, Treffurt

The Romanesque Normannstein Castle was probably built starting in the 9th century and converted into a castle around 1200 by the noble family of the "Lords of Treffurt."
