The Baldeneysee is the largest of the six Ruhr reservoirs. It was built as a "sedimentation tank" for industrial suspended matter - a relic from the rather dirty times of the Ruhrgebiet. Today, the tide has turned as in the whole pot. The Baldeneysee is today a recreational area and its surroundings a nice destination for bikers. Especially on the north side there are a lot of small trails that are great fun. A stop in the old town of Werden is also recommended.
