The Protestant church in Lautern probably dates from the 13th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1219, with the first church probably dating from the 9th century. It stands on the floor of a pagan cult site at the source of the Lauter. The church in Lautern was one of the first churches in the Swabian Alb. The medieval chapel stood in the area of the current nave. Since then, the church has been changed over and over again by many generations, and it received its current appearance around the middle of the 15th century. The late Gothic winged altar from 1509 from the Ulm School deserves special mention. In addition, remains of medieval frescoes can be seen on the walls.

It is usually open every day of the year until dark and is accessible to everyone.
For a small donation to preserve the church and the organ, you can arrange tours with Ms. Linde Otto, 07304 6560 (right next to the church).
Every year the Protestant parish of Wippingen-Lautern invites you to the "Lautern Summer Evenings" series of events (sommerabende-lautern.de/).
